In recent news our president has signed an executive order temporarily banning immigrants from predominantly muslim countries, countries like Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Somalia, and Libya. This of course sparked countless amounts of reactions and protests across the United States. Citizens, including celebrities and major corporations have responded to this new order of indignation.
According to quartzmedia.com, Facebook, Apple and Google all spoke out against this executive order “Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, who is also founder of immigration reform lobbying group Fwd.us, was the first major tech executive to speak out on Trump’s executive order in a carefully worded statement. Google CEO Sundar Pichai soon followed suit, and by Saturday, as protests intensified around the nation, defiance from tech leaders did too.” Apple had something as well. According to quartzmedia.com “CEO Tim Cook said Apple “will do everything we can” to support affected employees.Apple believes deeply in the importance of immigration—both to our company and to our nation’s future,” he wrote. “Apple would not exist without immigration, let alone thrive and innovate the way we do.” Cook has been in DC meeting with top lawmakers.”
Now the immigration order was put to a halt for immigrants with a visa by a federal judge. The interesting part that I think some have not looked at is the fact that immigration is basically exactly built off of. Our country is big mixture of different types of people, and religion. Not only that, but it is in our constitution that in America you can practice whatever religion you want. Also a part of the presidential oath is “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” So by default has president Trump already broken his oath? It has already been established that Donald Trump is nothing like the rest of our presidents in history. It is amazing that the country’s majority dislikes him and some how he is still our president doing things that can not only be seen as unconstitutional but as well as out of the will of the people which is exactly what America is, a democracy, a political disposition that is ran off of the will of the people. President Trump has done so many things since his election with it not even being a full month of his presidency. The question is will America be able to handle his decisions for the next four years or will he be the next president to be put up for impeachment since Bill Clinton? There will be a lot to look out for behind this order, this is definitely not the end of this situation, will we acclimate or continue to abhor our new president?
