Cross Country had their first meet on Saturday at Liberty North in the Tim Nixon Invitational. It’s a new meet hosted by Liberty North for late cross country coach, Tim Nixon who passed away last year. It was a hot meet with temperatures over 90 degrees and 66 percent humidity in the air.
Senior, Justin Binnicker was running a good race but with a little over a tenth of a mile left stopped and collapsed. Medical staff at the meet took care of him and said it was due to heat exhaustion.
All-State senior, Stacy Briggs, brought home 15th overall and 3rd in the Silver Division running a solid 20:47. “It wasn’t my best race, but I still like where I finished overall,” said Briggs.
Cross Country’s next meet is this Saturday at Bingham Middle School here in Independence. Come show your support and cheer them on!
