The Truman boys’ soccer season has come to an end. They put together an outstanding season. The boys ended with a 16-6 record. This year’s new coach, Angel Tovar, impacted the team greatly, taking them all the way to the district championship game.
Truman started the season with a five-game winning stretch against Van Horn, Grain Valley, twice O’Hara, and rivalry team Chrisman.
With as great of a season that they had, the team knows there are still quite a few things to improve on for next year.
“The team should work more on believing in themselves which will allow them to better compete and defeat the top teams in the city,” Tovar said.
Throughout the strong season, the boys worked together to achieve many accomplishments and goals that they had set earlier in the year. Truman then fell one goal short of a win against Blue Springs and again with Liberty North by two goals. They followed that up with another good four-game stretch taking the win against Raytown, Van Horn and Grain Valley, but they struggled when they took on Park Hill South and lost by four goals.
“We won our first tournament of the season by beating a class two state champion and a final four class three team. We played a hard conference schedule, but we beat Liberty twice for the first time in quite a while,” Tovar said.
Truman then took the win against Central and Liberty. Losing against Fort Osage by one goal made them work for the next two wins against Staley and Raytown. Later they dropped a game to Park Hill South, before defeating Liberty, Central and Ruskin. They finished the season losing against Rockhurst. Although they did not win their last game of the season the Truman Patriots are happy with the way they finished off the season. They only lost by one goal making the last game score only one point off.
Junior defenders, Isaac Ruiz and Keaton Wiley earned all-conference selections with Ruiz landing on the first team and Wiley the second. Sophomore midfielder, Raul Romero, also landed on the all-conference second team thanks to his four goals and four assists.
