Album Review: “I Said I Loved You First” By Selena Gomez & Benny Blanco

BY ISABELLA BEELER

On March 21, 2025 Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco released a new album called “I Said I Loved You First”. These two are engaged and this album is about their love story. Selena Gomez sings the songs and Benny Blanco produces it. Gracie Abrams is featured in this album. The genre of this is Pop/R&B.

The first song in this album is “I Said I Love You First”. It is not actually a song, but Gomez is saying thank you to all of her “Wizards of Waverly Place” cast while finishing the last season. I think this is a great way to start the album because it is talking about all the stuff she loves. A fun fact is that Gomez was the first one to say “I love you” in her relationship with Benny Blanco.

The second song on this album is “Younger And Hotter Than Me”. One thing I like about this song is the music video. Violet McGraw is in it. I also think the song is pretty. It is a sad song, though. It is about an ex who’s in another relationship and she regrets the relationship. I like the sound of the song, but I don’t like that it is sad. It’s probably relatable to some people, though.

The next song on this album is a single called “Call Me When You Break Up” and it’s with Gracie Abrams. I really like this song. It is upbeat and catchy. I also really like both of these singers. It is also relatable for a lot of people.

Some more songs on this album are “Scared Of Loving You” and “Sunset Blvd”. Scared Of Loving You” is a sweet and relatable song. It is about Gomez not being scared of loving Blanco, but scared of losing him. I like the beat of the song. It is a little short, though. I like the sound of “Sunset Blvd”. I do not recommend watching the music video, though. It is a little inappropriate.

The rest of the songs on the album are called “Ojos Tristes (with The Marías)”, “Don’t Wanna Cry”, “Cowboy”, “Bluest Flame”, “How Does It Feel To Be Forgotten”,”Do You Wanna Be Perfect”, “You Said You Were Sorry”, “I Can’t Get Enough”, and “Don’t Take It Personally”. “Ojos Tristes (with The Marías)” is partly in Spanish. These songs are pretty good. My favorite one is “Don’t Wanna Cry’”. I’m not the biggest fan of “Cowboy” because the lyrics are inappropriate. It is catchy. “Bluest Flame” reminds me of Charli XCX. “Do You Wanna Be Perfect” isn’t even a song. It is a funny ad like video saying we are perfect just how we are. That is nice. I don’t like the autotune of “Don’t Take It Personally”.

Overall, this album is pretty good. It has sweet, soft songs and messages. There are also catchy songs. I don’t like that some of the music videos and songs are inappropriate and short. I also don’t like some of the autotune. This album is really fun with Selena Gomex, Benny Blanco, and Gracie Abrams.

6.5/10
