Girls’ Soccer Preview

BY MASON SMITH

As the sun rises on Truman High School, the girls’ soccer team is back on the field preparing for what could be a memorable season. With the team being mainly upperclassmen the expectations are high. The leadership of the upperclassman gives a plethora of opportunities to the underclassmen both for this upcoming season and beyond that will just keep trickling down. Sophomore Kadyn Roady said, “The senior leadership has helped guide our team by setting a strong example through their hard work, dedication, and support for their teammates. They have helped the underclassmen learn what it means to be part of the team and how to step up when it matters. Their leadership has built confidence and created a positive team culture. When the seniors are gone, their impact will remain because the underclassmen will carry on the lessons and standards they set”.

After a tough week of tryouts Truman’s girls’ soccer team has now begun practice and working on their chemistry to start a great season. Senior Breia Lowry said, “Going into tryouts it’s easy to feel intimidated. Our goal as upperclassmen was to create an environment that is welcoming and inclusive to all different types of players. Sometimes this meant going out of our way to offer assistance or simply letting someone know they did something well. This quickly established unity, which was helpful as players felt confident enough to try new things during scrimmage or try to finish strong during conditioning”. The Patriots start their season on March 19th against the Van Horn Falcons. Coming off a difficult loss to Lees Summit last year at districts the Patriots want nothing more than to start off 1-0 and have a competitive season.
