Truman’s student section erupted as the final buzzer sounded at Belton High School on Friday night, sealing their first conference title since 2011. The two teams fought hard all night and battled back and forth until Antoine Davis hit the game-winning three pointer with a minute left in the game.
Last night the Patriots kicked off the first round of district play at Rockhurst. The Pats had a tough time transitioning between celebrating the big win but also preparing for a bigger game. Senior Gabe Sell said, “We have prepared for this game very well and if we play how we’ve played these past couple of weeks I don’t think we should have too big of a problem”. Unfortunately, the momentum from the 10-game winning streak did not carry into the district tournament as they fell short in their first round game and were eliminated 70-58.
This season started off on a rough start but was truly defined by the senior leadership specifically from Triston Daniels, Roman Rosenbaum, and Doral Thompson Jr. Although these seniors and all the others will graduate and move on to their next chapter they have set an expectation and a winning culture for Truman basketball. Junior Louis Kelso said, “Those of us who are returning varsity players will have to step up and lead the team next year by adopting the same type of mentality shown by this year’s seniors”.
