St. Patrick’s Day

BY ISABELLA BEELER

St. Patrick’s Day is a holiday celebrated by many. It is a fun day filled with green outfits, sweets, dancing, leprechauns, and parades. This holiday has a lot of significance. It also celebrates Irish culture and heritage.

St. Patrick’s Day is the remembrance of the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. Before it was a pagan country. It is also the remembrance of St. Patrick. He was born in Britain, but kidnapped and sold into slavery in Ireland when he was 16. He was considered the patron saint of Ireland. He was a missionary and used a shamrock to explain the Trinity in the Christian faith. The Trinity is God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

On St. Patrick’s Day, we celebrate by wearing green. We wear green because that is the traditional color that is associated with Ireland. Another thing some people do to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day is set leprechaun traps. That is because it goes along with Irish heritage. In Irish myth, if you catch a leprechaun, people say that they will grant you three wishes or tell you where their pot of gold is. They also celebrate this holiday by having parades. Dancing the Irish Jig is something fun to do to celebrate as well. Some people drink, too.

One thing I look forward to on St. Patrick’s Day is mint ice cream. One way we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with food is Mint flavored sweets. Arby’s comes out with a limited time Andes Mint Chocolate Shake. McDonalds comes out with Shamrock shakes and McFlurries. Dutch Bros come out with mint shakes, too. They have brownies on top. Wendy’s comes out with mint Frosty’s. It has Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies in it. You can choose chocolate or vanilla ice cream.

St. Patrick’s Day is a fun holiday. There are many yummy foods, cute outfits, and some fun activities to do to celebrate. The significance is to remember how Christainty arrived in Ireland and remember the missionary St. Patrick and what God did through him. It is also a day to celebrate Irish culture and heritage.
