“A Twisted Tale” is a book series written by many different authors. The books are about different Disney stories, but with a “What If?” twist. They are geared towards young adults. There are about 22 books in the series so far. I haven’t read all of them, but I’ve read 3 and they were wonderful.
The first book from this series that I read is called “Conceal, Don’t Feel” by: Jen Calonita. It is a “Frozen” twisted tale. The twisted part is “What if Anna and Elsa never knew each other?” After Elsa accidentally strikes Anna with her powers, they are cursed and lose their memory of each other and Elsa’s powers. Elsa lives in the castle and Anna lives with another family. Elsa keeps remembering parts of her childhood and her powers start to reveal themselves. Then Elsa goes on an adventure to undo the curse and find her sister. I think the author changed these parts of the story because the main parts of the original story are Elsa hiding her powers and Elsa and Anna’s relationship.
The second book from this series that I read is called “Part of Your World” by: Liz Braswell. It is a “The Little Mermaid” twisted tale. The twisted part is “What if Ariel had never defeated Ursula?” After the battle between Ariel and Ursula, Ursula wins. Ariel is still voiceless and becomes Queen of Atlantica. Ursula is ruling on land alongside Eric. After 5 years have past, Ariel finds out that her dad could still be alive. She thought she lost him during the battle. Then she goes on a quest to find her dad and defeat Ursula. In doing so, she goes back to the land and sees the prince of her dreams, which she thought she would never see again. I think the author changed these parts of the story because heroes almost always defeat villains during battle. Ariel still defeats Ursula in the book, but it takes longer.
The third book from this series that I read is called “What Once Was Mine” by: Liz Braswell. It is a “Tangled” twisted tale. The twisted part is “What if Rapunzel’s mother drank a potion from the wrong flower?” The story is told from the perspective of the brother of Sloan, who is sick in the hospital. He is putting his own spin on the Tangled story to tell his sister. The story is about how Rapunzel’s mother drinks a potion from the Moondrop flower instead of the Sundrop. As a result, Rapunzel has silver hair instead of gold hair. The silver hair comes with different powers than healing, too. They are dangerous, so she’s locked in a tower. She still wants to see the floating lights and goes on an adventure. We also meet new characters and see how Maximus comes to be. I think the author changed these parts of the story because Rapunzel’s hair and healing powers are a big part of the original story. It is also fun because it is a story inside of a story and has new characters.
Those were all of the books from this series that I have read so far. I enjoyed reading all of them and am excited to read more. I do feel like they take my favorite parts of the stories and change them, but it’s interesting. Some parts are a little slow, though. I’m starting to read “As Old as Time” by: Liz Braswell right now. It is the twisted tale of “Beauty and the Beast”. The twisted part is “What if Belle’s mother cursed the Beast?”
