Homecoming Recap (Story + Photo Gallery)

BY ISABELLA BEELER

Last week was Homecoming week. Homecoming is an event to welcome back graduated students. There is a football game and a dance. Many alumni return to campus and watch the game. There is also a Homecoming court. Seniors that play a big role in clubs get nominated. Then seniors vote first to narrow the court down to 5 boys and 5 girls. Then the whole school can vote. The homecoming court is Chloe Allen, McLane Graffeo, Milana Gallette-Arledge, Conner Reinhardt, Ivy Brillhart, Devon Jackson, Natalie McCutcheon, Maxwell Shook, Julia Shultz, and Javier Vargas. At the game Gallette-Arlege was named Homecoming Queen. Later, at the dance Graffeo was crowned Homecoming King. Leading up to the game and dance is a spirit week. On the last day of Homecoming week, there is a pep assembly.

The first part of Homecoming week is spirit week. Tuesday students could wear their class colors. Seniors wore white, juniors wore pink, sophomores wore purple, and freshmen wore green. Teachers wore blue. On Wednesday, it was Dynamic Duos day. Thursday was character day. I saw people dress up as Alice in Wonderland and other characters. Lastly, Friday was tacky tourist day. People wore tropical button ups.

The next part of Homecoming week is the Pep assembly. The band welcomed students with music as they entered the gym. Then the TruTones sang the national anthem and the JROTC held the flag. The StarSteppers and cheerleaders performed fun routines. There were also two games. The first game had 4 groups of 2, 2 groups of girls and 2 groups of boys. It was an obstacle course with hula hoops, a baseball bat, and balloons. The second game was with the homecoming court. Boys against girls. They had to make a train by putting balloons in between each other and holding them up with their bodies, not hands. The boys won. The homecoming court also threw candy. Lastly, each class cheered to try to win Timmy the gnome. The Seniors won.

That was Homecoming week. It ended with a game and an “Under the Sea” themed dance.
