Spring sports at Truman have begun. This signifies the year coming to an end as these sports will take us up all the way until the middle of May. Truman baseball had their tryouts a couple weeks back and there was a huge turnout of players. As the first two full weeks of practice have come and gone, excitement builds for the start of games. Coming into this season confidence is high as players have no doubts in this team’s ability to win games .
One of seven seniors on the team, Tyler Post, is preparing for his second season on the competitive varsity team. Before starting his final season as a Truman Patriot Post states, “It’s crazy how fast time flew by, sad for it to be the last. I’m just trying to finish the year strong and head into college at my best.” The senior year of high school has a way of putting emphasis on just how fast things move throughout high school.
Fast forward 18 days and 11 varsity games have already been played. The Patriots record at 4-7 truly does not reflect the abilities of players on the team. The Patriots early season schedule features multiple top teams in the state and/or KC Metro area. The Patriots, despite losing the last five straight, have put up a valuable fight against most if not all of these teams. The varsity team went up against number one ranked Lee’s Summit West last week. In a game full of runs, the Patriots lost 22-14. Throughout the game the Patriots and the Titans fought over the lead but it was just free bases and errors that brought the Patriots down at the end. The level of competitiveness was at a high all throughout the game, however.
While five consecutive losses is hard on many teams, The Patriots still strive high and look forward to turning things around against their rivals from Chrisman tonight. On the mound will be Brandon Lindle with the first pitch taking place at 6:00 pm.
