Keeping School Supplies Organized

BY MARCHELLE COLLINS

Being prepared and getting new school supplies is always a refreshing feeling, especially when you’ve used the same run down supplies all throughout the previous year. Although, receiving so many supplies at once can be overwhelming. A perfect solution is to find cheap ways to organize your supplies, whether it  be in your backpack, locker, or even your bedroom.

Step 1: Invest in a backpack with many pockets.

This can be extremely convenient for someone with smaller trinkets: whether it be lipgloss, airpods, charger, etc. You need a space to put each thing so that you never find yourself digging through your backpack for something and only finding the thing you needed days ago. Not to mention how embarrassing it sounds rummaging through your backpack, especially if it’s in a quiet class.

Step 2: Keep any loose school supplies in a pencil pouch.

We always need a lot of pencils throughout the year in school, just because these pencils disappear into the depths of the earth half the time, never to be seen again, so the more pencils the better. Though, this only applies if you have somewhere in your backpack to put them, otherwise it becomes a huge mess. It is always best if it includes different pockets as well so that you have a specific place for even the smallest objects.

Step 3: Section your backpack based on subject.

The many classes you are given can get a little bit confusing. It makes things a lot easier if you separate supplies for each subject. It is always the worst being in one class and having to check every notebook for the one you need, so why not just keep science books and folders together, math folders and notebooks together, and so on. This way you know exactly where everything is from each class, and you keep yourself and space organized.

Step 4: Get a desk

When buying school supplies, it’s easier to buy a few extra supplies for each subject so you aren’t worried about it later on. In this case you will need a place to put everything. A desk gives you lots of space to not only store extra school supplies but to also work on missing assignments or homework. It can be difficult doing work on your bed, or in a cafe. The bed becomes a distraction because it’s too comfortable and it can be annoying going all of the way out somewhere just to work on school. With a desk you gain a sense of motivation to get your work done.

Step 5: Get a rolling cart, cabinet, drawer, etc.

If you don’t have the opportunity to get a desk there are many different alternatives that work just as good. A rolling cart is a very smart way to do so, it is small, convenient, and it will allow just enough space to put things you don’t need at the moment. If not a rolling cart you could use an extra drawer, cabinet, or even a kitchen cabinet of choice can be convenient as well

As a student we are kept busy, it can make it difficult to keep things tidy and organized. A few organization tips can get you through your school year with ease. Hopefully these steps can guide you.
